Success is equal to?💡
As an engineer, I was always told during my studies that there should always be a known reason behind every step, and a definite approach toward it.
Before that, in our mathematics or physics or any programming language we have always used the "something is equal to something" approach, it can be a definition, equation, formula or theorem or you name it.
So, how do we define, equate, formulate, and justify the term "Success"?
Don't ask me, I don't know it either, the following are a series of thoughts or assumptions, let's see if it leads to some conclusion.
1. Can we define success in terms of effort?
If I have put in 100% of my effort and still didn't get the expected result, am I far from being succeeded?
If I have put in 200% of my effort and I'm 50% to completion, can I say I'm halfway to success?
Or, if I have put in 100% of my effort and I'm right on course to complete the things, but in due course, I have lost many things, how do I define this success??
2. Can we define success in terms of profit?
Profit as we know and define as the gain when we consider all the income and expense
A wise voice says "if I can get 50% extra by putting in 200% effort then it's still an extra and we are good here", is it? Are we? though?
3. Can we define success in terms of precision?
If we do something just for the sake of it, can we say that we succeeded though we did complete things, is it a success?
Or, if we are slower than the defined targets but our outputs are precise. Are we in right path to success?
4. Can we define success in terms of the time taken to complete the task?
If I can complete some task that takes 2 months to complete in a month by working 2x, am I successful?
Believe me, these are some of the thoughts that flow through my brain often.!! And the questions are sometimes endless..!!!
I still didn't get an answer to any of these, what I feel is,
I guess there is no definite boundary for success, there are no definite terms, or conditions for one to read and understand in order to get closer to success.
In these above cases, what matters is your choice,
if you chose to accept that it's okay for me to work slower, with slower effort, or with less precision then you are successful,
if you could say I'm okay to lose a couple of things to gain this, I think even that is your success,
if I accept this failure as a trial and try again I think I succeeded with different results the first time,
If I'm ready to take a step back from it and focus on something better, I think that's my early success,
At the same time, I can choose to work 2x, focus only on one factor and try to succeed, and be okay to lose all the things that I may do during the course.
All in all, my final thoughts are,
success is personal, it's not relative or isn't ideal, and it's up to us to define, equate and formulate our successes. As we are the inputs and outputs of it.
